Arnaud De Lie won the third stage of the Etoile de Besseges in a sprint. The 22-year-old from Lotto beat Arnaud Démare of Arkéa - B&B Hotels and Paul Penhoët of Groupama - FDJ. In the final sprint held under the rain, Giacomo Villa from Wagner Bazin WB finished seventh.
This stage - Besseges-Besseges - will go down in history, and not in a good way: after 10 km, there were still cars on the course, and the group decided to stop, as you can read in our article.
The stage was shortened from 164 to 136 kilometers, but eight teams decided not to restart due to the poor safety provided by the organizers. Soudal Quick-Step, Lidl-Trek, Decathlon AG2r, Red Bull-BORA, Uno-X Mobility, Ineos Grenadiers, Unibet Tietema Rockets and EF Education went home, with 89 riders remaining and restarting after an hour-long stop.
After the withdrawal of Soudal Quick Step e del leader Magnier, De Lie is now in the lead.
