The Ronde van Vlaanderen continues to generate record numbers and remains the international cycling event with the highest audience. From Bruges to Oudenaarde, the crowd attendance was once again impressive. It was impossible to find hotels in the entire Flanders area along the route, and record attendance was also recorded on the Oude Kwaremont, Hotond, and Kruisberg, with even Ronse experiencing unprecedented crowd numbers. These attendances naturally translate into revenue, and the figures surrounding the Tour of Flanders are truly unique. Hotels, restaurants, bars, and even improvised stands in private gardens were fully booked, and plans are already underway for next year to increase attendance. It should be noted that Belgian police established a maximum number of people at the most important points of the route, with the aim of ensuring maximum safety.
The numbers are clear, and the figures are close to last year's, when the start from Antwerp's market square allowed for a larger number of spectators compared to the smaller Bruges.
60,000 enthusiasts managed to find a spot on the Oude Kwaremont and another 50,000 on Kluisbergen. Around the finish area and Oudenaarde Market, 24,000 people were counted. In the Hotond, Kruisberg, and Ronse areas, 19,000 people were registered per sector. The audience was mostly Belgian and Dutch, followed by French and German fans, but every year numerous supporters arrive from across the ocean to watch the riders pass. The organizers also expressed satisfaction, having once again managed to guarantee a unique spectacle while maintaining maximum safety.
"It was a great cycling celebration from start to finish," stated Tomas Van Den Spiegel of Flanders Classics. "The fact that we concluded this sunny day with a podium featuring two world champions is the cherry on top. We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to this fantastic edition of the Tour of Flanders, to all local and national security services, to all employees and volunteers. Once again, this was an edition destined to enter the history books."
Of course, there were some unexpected events, and the police managed to block some environmental activists who wanted to enter the route, and a few fights were quelled due to excessive beer consumption.
