On the attack yesterday in the finale, protagonist in the sprint and placed today. At the O Gran Camiño 2025, Martin Marcellusi is trying every day not only to stand out but, first and foremost, to take advantage of the good form he is currently experiencing. With the result achieved at the finish line in A Estrada, the Roman rider from VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè has obtained his second 2nd place in less than a month, results that are a consequence of a different approach to races.
"Compared to last year, I feel I've made a step forward in terms of self-confidence, I approach races differently and, as I said, finishing second behind Nielsen can only be an honor," Marcellusi admitted after the finish line before delving into the details of today's stage.
"There was the unknown of fatigue after yesterday's action, but this was a stage suited to me. In the finale, I tried to follow Derek Gee on the last climb, but unfortunately, I dropped off in the last 500 meters. Anyway, it didn't go badly because behind Cort and his team were pulling with the entire squad to close the gap to the attackers. In the finale, I knew I had to take the Danish rider's wheel, I managed to do so, but when he attacked, he created a gap. I continued sprinting to finish second, a placement that against riders like him is still a satisfaction," explained the 2000-born rider.
"The next three stages? For the time trial, I don't have great expectations, but I'll try to give my best since it's short. In the last two stages, if we continue like this, we'll try to get some satisfaction. For the overall, we have Covili who is capable of defending himself in the time trial and has shown to have a good pace. Today, he gave me great help in the finale, we'll see if in the next stages I can repay him."
