These days, everyone is talking about the Van Der Poel - Pogacar duel, but meanwhile in Spanish territory, someone is preparing for a comeback that could be truly spectacular. Who are we talking about? The Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel, who is also in excellent company.
For the Belgian superstar, 2025 literally started uphill, due to a training crash on December 3rd, he was forced to abruptly cut short a good part of the early season, relying on a slow recovery to be in shape for the Tour de France, which is his great objective. He has been in Sierra Nevada for a few weeks now, where many athletes are doing a high-altitude training period, like his teammates Mikel Landa and Valentin Paret Peintre. A few days ago during training, he met the fellow "Olympic" colleague Kristen Faulkner, who had flown to Spain right after Milan-Sanremo.
It was the American herself, Olympic champion in road race and team pursuit, who documented the meeting by posting a few-second video on social media with a more than clear description: "I think this is where Olympic champions come to train". Immediately, the video generated comments from all over the world. Some noticed the difference in clothing (Faulkner, originally from Alaska, in summer attire and Evenepoel super covered), but many others emphasized that the Belgian seems to have really good form.
In short, a truly Olympic champions' encounter that shows us a smiling Remco Evenepoel who is ready to return to the track. The time trial world champion should kick off the season on April 18th at the Brabant Arrow, then continuing with Amstel Gold Race, Flèche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and Tour de Romandie, but for now the only confirmed participation is in the Swiss stage race. Kristen Faulkner's program also includes the Ardennes with Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, then we'll see her at the start of the Vuelta Femenina.
