Eight days after the World Championship in Lievin (France), Mathieu Van Der Poel makes a statement in the penultimate round of the Elite Cyclocross World Cup held in Massmechelen, Belgium, securing his sixth consecutive victory. He hadn't won since the Cup race in Besancon (France) on December 29th. After a 25-day break due to rib problems, the Alpecin Deceuninck world champion returned to the top step of the podium. He won by a significant margin, beating his long-time rival Wout Van Aert (Visma Lease a Bike), who crashed while riding alongside VDP. Dutch rider Joris Nieuwenhuis finished third. Tomorrow, the final Cup showdown will take place in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.
