Another tragedy on the roads, another mournful news from Trentino. This morning a new road drama unfolded along a secondary road connecting Mezzocorona and Mezzolombardo: the victim is a 19-year-old Trentino cyclist, Sara Piffer, who was training when she was hit and killed by a car while on Cesare Battisti street, an internal road connecting Mezzocorona to Mezzolombardo. Her brother Christian (amateur in Campana Imballaggi) was with her on another racing bike and suffered minor injuries.
From the initial reconstruction, a car driven by a 70-year-old local man, who was coming from the opposite direction and was overtaking another vehicle, hit the young woman. Despite the helicopter intervention of the emergency services and attempts to resuscitate her, the injuries sustained by the girl were fatal. The local Police of Rotaliana intervened at the scene and is conducting investigations.
Meanwhile, the area was isolated and secured while medical personnel initiated life-saving maneuvers, also using the defibrillator. Despite the prompt and lengthy intervention, unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for the girl.
Sara Piffer, from Paiù di Giovo where she lived with her family, would have turned 20 in October. Always on a bicycle, she had started racing for Velo Sport Mezzocorona with good results. Last year, with Team Mendelspeck Ge-Man, she managed to win in Corridonia, in the Marche region, and in the time trial of Verla/Maso Roncador in her Trentino, she narrowly missed the target, finishing in second place. An excellent road cyclist and also good on the track, Sara was the vice Italian champion of the Madison in 2021. The new season about to begin would have seen her again with the Mendelspeck colors.
