An attack at the top of the Rio Chiè GPM, a quick descent, and then a solo ride to the Brisighella finish line. Ben Tulett, the 23-year-old British rider from Team Visma Lease a Bike, triumphed in the fourth stage of the Coppi and Bartali Week, crossing the finish line with arms raised and a 6" advantage over Spanish rider Igor Arrieta (UAE Team Emirates) and 7" over Mark Donovan (Q36.5) who completed the podium. Simone Velasco (XDS Astana Team) finished fourth, the best Italian at the end of today's 150-kilometer stage.
The flag drops and four riders break away: Paul Double (Team Jayco AlUla), winner at Sogliano; Germán Darío Gómez (Team Polti VisitMalta); the climbing leader Marc Cabedo (JCL Team UKYO) and Marco Martini (Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna). Martin Marcellusi (VF Group - Bardiani CSF – Faizan) and then eight other athletes pursue them, managing to catch up with the attackers in a few kilometers.
At the twenty-second kilometer of the race, a group of thirteen breakaway riders forms: Pascal Eenkhoorn (Soudal Quick-Step), Paul Double (Team Jayco AlUla), Ugo Fabries (UAE Team Emirates), Davide Baldaccini (Team Solution Tech - Vini Fantini), Germán Darío Gómez (Team Polti VisitMalta), Martin Marcellusi (VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizan), Adrien Maire (Unibet Tietema Rockets), Marc Cabedo (JCL Team UKYO), Luca Cretti (MBH Bank Ballan CSB), Federico Guzzo (S.C. Padovani Polo Cherry Bank) and Marco Martini (Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna).
On the first GPM of the day, at the second passage through Monticino, Pascal Eenkhoorn (Soudal Quick-Step) beats Marc Cabedo and Ugo Fabries (UAE Team Emirates), while at the back of the group, 19-year-old son of a cycling legend Markel Beloki (EF Education - EasyPost) struggles and will soon decide to abandon the Coppi & Bartali Week.
The second mountain grand prix is won by Marc Cabedo, with Marco Martini second and Davide Baldaccini in third position, while the group, mainly led by Visma Lease a Bike, controls the breakaway and manages the pace of the chase.
At the one hundred and third kilometer, the situation changes: a crash involves Marco Martini, who gets back on his bike but is eventually caught by the chasing group.
