The issue is road safety. But this time, both the driver and the cyclist are on the wrong side, together committing a crime and risking the cyclist's life. The images were recorded on Easter Sunday along the Florence-Pisa-Livorno highway, between the Santa Croce sull'Arno and Montopoli in Val d'Arno exits.
The car proceeds at a speed between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour (in the video posted on "The Damned of the FIPILI", the car's speedometer shows a speed around 65 km/h), with hazard lights on, completely pulled over to the right side of the roadway, with the cyclist obviously riding behind the car.
Anyone who has cycled knows this type of training and its danger. Doing it on a busy highway - true, there were no trucks, but it was still Easter with its well-known traffic issues - is even more dangerous. And above all, it is a crime because bicycles are not allowed on that highway.
From the images, unfortunately, few details can be discerned, but the impression is that it involves a competitive cyclist, perhaps preparing for a race the next day (there were no competitions on Easter, but there were on Easter Monday). But this is not how one refines preparation; rather, one seriously risks ending up in the afterlife.
It's not the first case, highway police officials explain, and it won't be the last, but this is not a good excuse for gambling with one's life. Nor is the fact that it's difficult to be caught in the act. Is it so hard to understand that life is not a game?
