After the Cobbled Classics, Wout van Aert focuses on the Brabantse Pijl and Amstel Gold Race with Tiesj Benoot by his side to help escort the Flemish champion to victory. Visma-Lease a Bike has never won the Brabantse Pijl, with their best result being in 2021 when Van Aert finished second behind Tom Pidcock.
For Van Aert, this is a return after his 2021 placement, and he wants to perform well. "I can't wait to be at the start line. I haven't participated in this race for a few years, but thanks to the calendar change we made, it now fits perfectly into my schedule. So I have an extra opportunity to participate in a beautiful spring classic. In my first and only participation in 2021, I was close to victory, so the course is definitely suitable for a rider with my characteristics. My sensations are good, and I hope to play an important role in the finale. This will be my goal from the start."
On Sunday, the Flemish rider will also be at the start of the Amstel Gold Race, which he won in 2021 ahead of Pidcock and Schachmann. In subsequent editions, Tiesj Benoot finished on the podium twice in 2022 and 2024: besides being a valuable help for Van Aert, the Belgian might also try to take the lead if conditions allow.
"The Brabantse Pijl is an ideal preparation for the Amstel and both are fantastic races," Van Aert continued. "In the Amstel Gold, the Cauberg will play an important role in the finale, which can be advantageous for riders who want to attack. I think this weekend offers high-level opportunities for our team." Along with Wout van Aert and Tiesj Benoot, Niklas Behrens, Daniele McLay, Tosh Van der Sande, and Julien Vermote will also be present.
