Jonas Vingegaard, as you all remember, withdrew from Paris-Nice due to a crash. Initially, there were concerns about a hand injury and fears of a fracture, but the Dane had actually suffered a concussion. The news was only released yesterday, when Jonas shared what happened during Paris-Nice in the newspaper B.T.
"After the incident, I felt disoriented and at the end of the stage I was experiencing severe nausea and an unusual fatigue. It was incredible, at first I didn't feel well at all and the discomfort lasted several days".
The two-time Tour de France winner withdrew from Paris-Nice before the start of the sixth stage on March 14th, after injuring his hand in a crash during the fifth stage. The Visma-Lease a Bike team had stated that their medical staff considered it appropriate for the Dane to stop and return home to focus on upcoming objectives.
"I'm happy to be back on the bike, although it took a bit longer than expected due to the concussion, which required a lot of rest".
In agreement with his team, the Dane decided not to participate in the Tour of Catalonia, which started yesterday, because he felt he had not fully recovered from the crash in France. In his interview with B.T. newspaper, he stated that he only returned to cycling on March 20th and has not yet defined his plan to return to competitions.
"For now, we'll take things day by day and let the team decide whether to make modifications or additions to my schedule". A schedule that currently only includes the Criterium du Dauphiné before the Tour de France.
In the same interview, Vingegaard also said that last winter he had considered the possibility of leaving cycling.
