The Prato organizers from Galciana of the 5th Maurizio Bresci Memorial-Little Liège, a national race for elite and under-23 riders, are accustomed to offering surprises with their race route, which commemorates a young cycling enthusiast who loved the monument classics raced in spring in Northern Europe.
They confirm this for the race scheduled in Galciana on Sunday, May 18th, with a challenging and difficult route that brings (apart from the historical La Medicea ride) competitive cycling back to the ancient village of Artimino after 50 years, which was involved in the professional Montelupo Fiorentino Grand Prix in the 1970s.
The organizers Dabizzi, Giordani, Gabbricci, Bindi, with race director Rampogni, have reviewed the route, ultimately deciding on a wide-ranging 53 km circuit to be repeated three times for a total of 159 kilometers. Start and finish on Via Lastruccia in Galciana, and after an initial flat section, there will be the Seano climb, then from Comeana the climb towards Artimino, descent to Poggio a Caiano to climb again towards Carmignano (via Granaio or La Corta side) and return to Galciana. All this three times, and there's no doubt that on paper the race should provide significant selection. The technical organization of the Maurizio Bresci Memorial-Little Liège is entrusted to Moto Guzzi Prato, an always active association.
