After a long and exhausting battle with cancer, lasting three years, Fabrizio Di Somma, a 54-year-old former track cycling champion, has passed away.
His impressive career included an Olympic silver and two bronze medals from Sydney 2000, two world titles, and numerous World Cup podium finishes. In 2010, a severe accident in which he suffered over thirty fractures forced him to retire from competitive sports and assume the role of Italian para-cycling technical coach alongside head coach Valentini until 2021.
Many condolence messages have arrived via social media, starting with that of Paralympic Committee President Luca Pancalli.
The funeral will be held tomorrow in Borgo Piave at 4 PM.
