The incident occurred less than ten kilometers after the start of the seventh and final stage of the UAE Tour, with a traffic island approached at full speed causing seven riders to fall: Froome, Tarling, Behrens, Kepplinger, Rootkin-Gray, Van Hoecke and De Kleijn. Four riders managed to restart, while Chris Froome, Arvid De Kleijn (Tudor Pro Cycling) and Niklas Behrens (Visma Lease a Bike) remained on the ground and were forced to withdraw.
In particular, Froome was taken to the hospital where radiographic examinations revealed a fracture of the right collarbone. Tomorrow morning, the British rider will undergo further examination in Dubai to decide whether to have surgery or proceed conservatively.
