After Demi Vollering's move for the GC yesterday in the opening day of the Volta Femenina de la Comunitat Valenciana, today's Benicassim - Nules 134 km stage saw a sprint finale: Liane Lippert (Movistar) tried to attack on the finish straight, but stalled in the final meters and was overtaken on the line by Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx) and Elisa Balsamo (Lidl Trek) who was declared second after a long photo finish. Notable is the seventh position of Eleonora Ciabocco (Picnic PostNL) who continues to wear the white jersey as best young rider. Earlier, the race was characterized by just two riders in the breakaway: Eva Van Agt (Visma Lease a Bike) who dropped back on the mid-course climbs, and Brodie Chapman (UAE) who took the polka dot jersey and was finally caught just four kilometers from the finish.
Bredewold's 12th career victory, who after the race said she was proud of her team's work in her first seasonal sprint. Her former teammate Vollering, now with FDJ Suez, finished fourth and comfortably defends the overall leadership. Another day for sprinters tomorrow.
