They might be corridor rumors, heated whispers, winter speculation, or credible and confirmed gossip, but it seems that behind the delays in officially announcing the "wild cards" for the Giro d'Italia, there is a desire, a wish, a need to wait for responses from the International Cycling Union (UCI). They are waiting for approval to distribute an additional "wild card" to avoid undermining Italian cycling, which is already under pressure and reduced to a minimum. Corridors are buzzing with rumors suggesting that the French cousins at ASO have also made a similar request. There's a need to save what can be saved, before it becomes a "save yourself" situation.
