There is no peace for those who cycle, for those who love our sport. No peace for those simply wanting to enjoy a peaceful weekend ride. A 49-year-old cyclist lost his life in Salerno in a tragic accident on Via Fra' Generoso, at the intersection with the road leading to Castello Arechi. A truck in transit lost part of its load of waste bales which hit a group of cyclists on the opposite lane. Rescuers arrived immediately, but unfortunately for one of the cyclists there was nothing that could be done. Another cyclist was seriously injured and was urgently transported to Ruggi d'Aragona Hospital in Salerno, while two others are under observation.
Rescuers arrived immediately: Firefighters, 118 Emergency Services, State Police and Municipal Police. The firefighters also intervened with a crane to lift the load, but unfortunately for one of the cyclists there was nothing that could be done. The victim was 49 years old and originally from Caserta.
The investigation is entrusted to the Salerno Municipal Police. The body has been transferred to the Salerno morgue. Traffic on the Viaduct, the road from the port to the highway, resumed with difficulty.
