Alexander Kristoff celebrates his 97th career victory by triumphing in the third stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia with an impressive comeback sprint. It was practically a perfect day for the Norwegian from Uno X, who skillfully used his team to control the race. Ben Turner (Ineos Grenadiers) finished second, Maxim Van Gils (Red Bull Bora) third, with Tom Pidcock (Q36.5) just missing the podium.
THE RACE The third day of the Vuelta a Andalucia featured an exciting and dynamic stage, with the peloton cycling from Arjona to Pozoblanco over 162 km and providing plenty of entertainment. The big novelty was the "Golden Kilometer" located 18 km from the finish, which offered three intermediate sprints with valuable bonus seconds within a thousand meters. Tom Pidcock was particularly active, managing to collect 8" of bonus seconds, which are extremely precious in the general classification.
The stage was long characterized by a breakaway of 3 riders: Uruguayan Thomas Silva (Caja Rural), Spaniard Diego Uriarte (Equipo Krn Pharma), and Italian Lorenzo Peschi (Petrolike), who gained up to 2'30" over a group led by Uno X and Euskaltel, which didn't give them much leeway. The breakaway officially ended 21.5 km from the finish line.
