On the occasion of the Giro d'Italia, which will be broadcast live in full on Eurosport 1 and Discovery+ from the start of each stage, Eurosport hosts Linus, or rather Linus hosts Riccardo Magrini on Radio Deejay to share their enormous common passion for cycling - whether practicing, narrating, or watching it on TV - for a special episode of A ruota libera, an original Eurosport Italia production.
From cycling of the past to the present, with plenty of love for two wheels: "Freedom, effort, enjoyment, being part of the group: I take all four because they well describe what cycling means with its great sense of belonging".
"My favorite races are Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, I would like to be part of one... And then the Strade Bianche and Milan-San Remo".
"In Romagna, Marco Pantani is everywhere and there isn't a bicycle, road, or climb that isn't linked to a memory of him. My friends say they would meet him on the highway going to Cippo, always alone, among the cars, as people used to ride bikes in those days".
Linus then associates current champion riders - Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, van der Poel, van Aert, Roglic and Pidcock - with music bands and icons: "Pidcock is punk, he reminds me of one of the Sex Pistols. Pogacar is perfection, he's a bit like Michael Jackson, an eternal child dancing on the bicycle. Vingegaard physically reminds me of Radiohead, a bit incomprehensible until you immerse yourself in him. Evenepoel is a little brat but that's his strength: he could be a bit like Bob Dylan. Van Der Poel I really like: he's a Boss like Springsteen. Roglic is a bit like Donald Duck, unlucky at the right moments: a famous singer but with someone more famous than him, the Simple Minds when U2 existed. Van Aert is an artist and incomprehensible, I really like those like him".
Starting Friday, May 9th from Albania, the one hundred and eighth Giro d'Italia will conclude on Sunday, June 1st at the final finish line in Rome, passing through Matera, Naples, Siena, Pisa, Modena, Vicenza, Treviso towards the great climbs that will decide the race, including Alpe San Pellegrino, Monte Grappa, Mortirolo, Col de Joux and the Colle delle Finestre Cima Coppi. There will be 21 stages to be experienced live every day on Eurosport 1 with commentary by Luca Gregorio, Riccardo Magrini, Moreno Moser, Wladimir Belli and all their post-stage guests on Giro 360 on the new Eurosport Italia YouTube channel.
