
The final stage of the Giro d'Italia, scheduled for Sunday, June 1st, will be dedicated to Pope Francis. The race will pass through Vatican City and end in front of Circus Maximus. A passage strongly desired by Pope Francis, in the Jubilee year, which the Vatican is supporting these days. At the presentation held in the Campidoglio, speakers included Rome's Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri; RCS MediaGroup President, Urbano Cairo; Bishop Paul Tighe, Secretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education; Rome's Events, Sports, Tourism and Fashion Commissioner, Alessandro Onorato; RCS Sports & Events CEO, Paolo Bellino; Giro d'Italia Director, Mauro Vegni; La Gazzetta dello Sport Director, Stefano Barigelli; and Vincenzo Nibali, winner of two Giri d'Italia (2013 and 2016) along with many other institutions, media representatives, and race partners.
