Tadej Pogacar has already demonstrated his extraordinary strength in Wallonia, where he dictated the law on the Mur de Huy. On the roads of Liege-Bastogne-Liege, a new duel is expected: the one between the Slovenian and Remco Evenepoel. Both have won this Monument Classic twice and now are ready to battle.
The confrontation between the two champions reminded some of the fantastic duel between Frank Vandenbroucke and Michele Bartoli on the Côte de la Redoute in 1999. "I don't know what happened during that edition of Liege - Pogacar said at the race presentation - I don't know what you're talking about". Pogacar was a bit surprised by the question during the team presentation and, after initial perplexity, explained that he is ready to face all his rivals.
"My legs are in excellent form. It has been a long spring, but I can't wait to tackle this race that closes the spring season. The Flèche Wallonne gave me a lot of confidence and motivation. Those who said my form was declining after the Amstel Gold Race didn't understand much".
For his part, Remco Evenepoel knows the Ardennes Classics well but doesn't believe there will be another attack on the Redoute like in 1999. "It would be fantastic to recreate that situation. I know they will try not to let me go. But if I have to attack, I will".
