An incredulous Mischa Bredewold crossed the finish line with her arms raised in the Amstel Gold Race Ladies. The 24-year-old Dutch rider from SD Worx Protime won with a seven-second advantage over her compatriots Ellen van Dijk (Lidl - Trek) and Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck). In fourth place was French champion Juliette Labous (FDJ - SUEZ), who completed the 157-kilometer race ahead of Silvia Persico (UAE ADQ), the fifth-place finisher.
With 2.5 kilometers to go, at the last climb of the Cauberg, the former European champion attacked, dropping Ellen van Dijk, with whom she was leading at that moment, and sped towards her twelfth career victory.
The race, which started from Maastricht in the morning, had its decisive turn 16 kilometers from the finish when Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck) changed pace, breaking away from the group that had been leading the race and bringing French champion Juliette Labous (FDJ – SUEZ) with her. Shortly after, Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ), Mischa Bredewold (Team SD Worx – Protime), and Ellen van Dijk (Lidl – Trek) rejoined the leaders.
Five kilometers from the finish, the Lidl Trek time trial specialist broke the deadlock and, starting from the back of the group, surprised her companions by taking the lead. At that point, Bredewold "closed the gap" and formed the orange tandem that traveled in agreement until Mischa Bredewold's decisive attack.
