Tadej Pogacar's presence makes this Paris-Roubaix even more exciting: Winning won't be easy, although the Slovenian already has a precise plan. "It's a great opportunity to experience it from the other side of the barricade, as a rider". Pogacar recalls his participation in the Paris-Roubaix juniors, where he finished thirtieth in 2015 and thirteenth in 2016, with riders like Philipsen and Hirschi also competing.
The cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix are not new to Tadej Pogacar, but his participation in youth categories is now part of his past. "The 2016 race was tough. We'll see if today will be more or less the same or if it will be something more pleasant".
In his career, the Slovenian has won the Tour de France 3 times and the Giro d'Italia once, but his palmares also includes 8 victories in Monument Classics and tomorrow, he could add a success in the Hell of the North.
"This is a great race, one of the most important of the year, and I wanted to be here". The world champion's team was the last to take the stage at the presentation in Compiegne, and the public enthusiastically welcomed the entry of the Emirates team. So far, the Slovenian has won 3 of the 5 Monument Classics with the Tour of Lombardy, Tour of Flanders, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Tomorrow will be his first time at Roubaix, and even though he has studied the course well, it won't be easy to shake off all competitors.
"I would like to do it, but for now winning all 5 Monument Classics is something I can only dream of, but whether I will succeed or not is another matter. I don't need to rush".
The world champion has always said that cycling is fun for him and that he will stop when he no longer feels emotions during the race. For now, the fun is not lacking, and when the race gets tough, the Slovenian becomes even more excited.
"It will be a tough day, but I want to experience what cycling has to offer. It's a great opportunity that must be lived".
