The meetings within the activity "Giro at School" continue, which is part of the calendar leading up to the Giro d'Italia arrival in Castelnovo Monti on May 21st. The project is aimed at students from 10 primary school locations along the eleventh stage route: it consists of a series of meetings led by Luca Simonelli that cover topics of the Giro, bicycles and cyclists, materials and technology, past and present, the pink race and Giro-E (the event dedicated to e-bikes that accompanies the main race), the peculiarities of the major sporting event and its accompanying caravan.
A day was dedicated to the schools of @Toano Municipality: the meetings were first held in the main town, with girls and boys from Quara, then moved to Cavola, first at Cto Labor and then at Cavolaforum.
Former professional cyclists were present: Lauro Grazioli, Paolo Tedeschi, Giuseppe Sacchetti from Scandiano, Gianni Leurini from the Castelnovo Monti Cycling University Pedal, and for the first time Matteo Nigliazzo, a 15-year-old from Toano who races for Ciclistica Cavriago, and who attended school in Toano. He was able to meet his former teachers again. Federico Biagini, a professional rider from VF Bardiani Csf Faisané, the Reggio team of the Reverberi family that will still race in the 2025 Giro d'Italia and holds the record for most stages won, also arrived at Cavolaforum. Biagini took a break from his training to stop for half an hour at Cavolaforum.
The school children not only welcomed the guests with great enthusiasm and asked many questions: they had also prepared some works to show their passion for the Pink Race. The Quara school designed a sort of Goose Game with squares dedicated to healthy food, health, and sport, while the Toano school created a poster about cycling up to the Bismantova Stone, with captions about effort and commitment, with the students explaining each value inserted in the drawing. Finally, the students from Cavola schools composed a special song for the Giro d'Italia, sung together with the guests, along with a series of special albums, made with dozens of themed drawings and images.
The next appointment with Giro at School will be tomorrow in Felina. And tomorrow another interesting Giro-related event also begins: Saturday and Sunday will feature "The Giro Carved in Wood", a collective performance of artists who carve and work with wood, who will create a sculpture in Gramsci Square that will represent and commemorate the arrival of the 2025 Giro d'Italia in Castelnovo. The sculpture will consist of a main wooden body in the image of a Giro cyclist and a corten frame depicting the Bismantova Stone. It will be installed in anticipation of the Pink Race in the same square and will become a furnishing element as a legacy of the historic event. The protagonists of this performance will be some local artists such as Claudio Ferrarini, Alessandro Colombari, Palmiro Incerti, and other members of the Olmo d'Oro Association from Carugate.
