Li Ning Star and Solution Tech-Vini Fantini smile on the final stage of the 2025 Tour of Hainan.
Celebrating at the Sanya finish line were Alexander Salby, victorious in the sprint ahead of Manuel Penalver (Polti-VisitMalta) and Matteo Malucelli (XDS-Astana), and Kyrylo Tsarenko, who, despite having only one teammate left today, claimed the general classification and delivered Solution Tech-Vini Fantini their first-ever victory in a stage race.
THE RACE REPORT. Unlike previous stages, the initial kilometers saw no real breakaway attempt. It took some kilometers before Tegshbayar Batsaikhan (Roojai Insurance), Nur Aiman Mohd Zariff (Terengganu Cycling Team), Aleksandr Bereznyak (Cheng DYC), Bowen Zheng (FNIX SCOM-Hengxiang Cycling Team), Igor Chzhan (China Glory) tried to escape, but their action, due to strong winds on the course, quickly faded. Even the timid move by George Jackson (Burgos Burpellet BH), Lucas De Rossi (China Glory) and Jonas Rapp (FNIX SCOM-Hengxiang Cycling Team) was short-lived, and the peloton remained compact until Ion Agirre (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Pablo Garcia (Polti-VisitMalta) and Timofei Ivanov (Chengdu DYC) attacked successfully. The trio, despite the gusts, reached up to 1'20", a margin that allowed them to stay ahead for about forty kilometers before the peloton managed to reel them in. At this point, chaos erupted with XDS-Astana and Polti-VisitMalta creating an echelon with 15 riders, from which overall leader Tsarenko and second-placed Christian Raileanu were excluded. At the front were big names like Xabier Berasategi (Euskaltel-Euskadi), George Jackson, Daniel Cavia, Vojtech Kminek (Burgos Burpellet BH), German Gomez, Manuel Peñalver, Diego Sevilla, Francisco Munoz (Polti-VisitMalta), Matteo Malucelli, Aaron Gate, Henok Mulubrhan (XDS-Astana), with the latter two finishing third and first at the first intermediate sprint, thus gaining important bonus seconds. However, not gaining more than 15" ahead, the teams still in force easily closed the gap on the attackers, after which Cyrus Monk (FNIX SCOM-Hengxiang), Aiman Cahyadi (Terengganu) and Marton Dina (Euskaltel-Euskadi) counterattacked. The trio managed to create a 1'05" gap from a group that, however, did not grant much space and quickly caught the breakaway just after the second intermediate sprint (won by Monk over Dina). Unrest continued to reign in the peloton with Clement Alleno, Vojtech Kminek (Burgos Burpellet BH) and Aleksandr Bereznyak (Chengdu DYC) who, like those before them, forcefully escaped and managed to reach and exceed a minute's advantage. The gap did not increase because, as expected, the sprinters' teams began to chase, calculating well and catching the attackers within the last two kilometers. Thus, for the third time in five stages, it came down to a sprint where Salby, launching his sprint early, beat Penalver and Malucelli. In the middle of the group, Tsarenko also celebrated, defending the yellow jersey, winning the overall classification and closing a decidedly profitable week for Solution Tech-Vini Fantini.
