The cycling weekend we've just left behind provided many interesting statistical insights. The first came from Mathieu Van der Poel, who on Friday secured consecutive victory in the E3 Saxo Classic. The Dutch superstar is the sixth ever to win in Harelbeke for at least two consecutive editions and the first of all time to triumph in this prestigious Belgian race in the same year as Milan-Sanremo.
A glorious Sunday for Mads Pedersen and Primoz Roglic. The Dane won the Gand-Wevelgem for the second consecutive year (eighth rider to achieve this in 87 editions) and, considering his 2020 triumph, has collected his third personal success in this important northern classic. Pedersen has reached the all-time top with Belgians Van Eenaeme, Van Looy, Merckx and Boonen, Italian Cipollini and Slovak Sagan (absolute leader also counting a second and two third places).
Roglic put his signature on the 104th edition of the Volta a Catalunya, crowning a journey marked by two stage wins and repeating his triumph in Spanish territory after his 2023 victory. Slovenia has achieved a consecutive triple at Catalunya, counting Pogacar's win last year, and has risen to 7 World Tour victories this season, taking the lead in the nations ranking.
Italy has lost the leadership in number of victories (remaining at 6), but thanks to Jonathan Milan's 3rd place at Gand-Wevelgem, has consolidated its primacy in total podium placements in 2025 World Tour races, rising to 18.
