The International Briko Torino Granfondo celebrates its tenth anniversary. The event offers cyclists the opportunity to pedal through the heart of the first capital of Italy, starting from the "Fausto Coppi" Motovelodromo with a 115.7 km route through the Turin and Asti hills, with 2,129 meters of elevation gain.
A technical and challenging route that touches some of the most fascinating places in the territory, with not-too-long climbs that allow riders to admire breathtaking panoramas up to the highest peaks of the western Alpine arc.
The two-day event will begin on Saturday, May 10th with race package collection at the "Fausto Coppi" Motovelodromo, a historic structure of Italian cycling with roots dating back to the 1920s. Designed by architect Vittorio Ballatore di Rosana, a representative of Turin's Liberty style, it represents the only sports architecture in the city still existing from the first thirty years of the last century. The pulsating heart of the structure is its track, 393 meters long and characterized by a steeper inclination compared to traditional bicycle velodromes. Initially conceived to host car and motorcycle racing competitions, it has seen legendary champions like Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi race, hosting stage finishes of the Giro d'Italia and Milano-Torino, the world's oldest race.
TRIBUTE TO GRANDE TORINO - Also on Saturday, the organization will pay homage to Grande Torino by laying a laurel wreath at Superga, commemorating the team tragically lost on May 4, 1949. The race will start on Sunday, May 11th at 08:30. Participants must mandatorily wear the commemorative technical jersey included in the race package, under penalty of disqualification. The route will end on strada dei Colli (Panoramica Pino Torinese-Superga) after 115.7 km.
ON THE VUELTA ROADS - The route will also cross roads that will host the Vuelta a España, one of the most important professional stage races in the world, which for the first time in its history will start from Italy on Saturday, August 23rd, from Torino - Reggia di Venaria and head to Novara on a 183-kilometer route. After hosting the Tour de France last year and the start of the Giro d'Italia, the Piedmont Region and the City of Turin confirm their intention to invest in major events as a driving force for tourism and sports promotion.
THE FINAL TIME TRIAL - The competition will conclude with a time trial inside the Motovelodromo, a true challenge within the challenge reserved for the first 20 men and 10 women in the overall ranking, to elect the King and Queen of the Motovelodromo. Following this, the pasta party and awards ceremony from 14:45.
The "Luca Ferrero Memorial"
This year, the event welcomes the first edition of the "Luca Ferrero Memorial", dedicated to a great cycling enthusiast and respected veterinarian, who passed away last year in a tragic road accident while training on his road bike. Investigations into the accident to ascertain any responsibilities are still ongoing. Ferrero, a competitive cyclist and participant in several editions of the Torino Granfondo, is remembered not only for his sporting talent but also for his professionalism, his commitment to helping less fortunate people, and his connection to the community. The memorial's dedication is a tribute to his memory and a message of awareness about road safety. A portion of the race entry fee with the special "Luca Ferrero Memorial" rate will be donated to Cottolengo - Piccola casa della divina provvidenza, a facility where Luca volunteered.
