The Volta a Catalunya starts tomorrow from Sant Feliu de Guíxols, but one of the most anticipated riders will not be present: Jonas Vingegaard has in fact declared his withdrawal. Visma Lease a Bike has reiterated via social media that the Dane has not yet fully recovered from the fall that occurred at Paris-Nice and therefore will skip the Spanish commitment. The Dutch team, which confirmed that Vingegaard did not suffer any fractures, has decided to focus on Simon Yates and Sepp Kuss, who will be joined by Steven Kruijswijk, Wilco Kelderman, Bart Lemmen, Menno Huising and Matthew Brennan.
As for Vingegaard, it is not known when he will return to racing: his original schedule included high-altitude training after Catalunya and then the Dauphiné at the beginning of June, with the first seasonal challenge against Pogacar, but there is a possibility that the Dane might decide to include a short stage race in the long journey that will lead him to the Dauphiné and from there to the Tour.
Regarding the Spanish race, the most anticipated riders - besides Visma - are Ayuso and Adam Yates for UAE, Landa for Sudal, Juanpe Lopez and Geoghegan Hart for Lidl Trek, Roglic and Pellizzari for Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe, Gall for Decathlon, Geraint Thomas and Bernal (returning after injury) for Ineos, Carapaz for EF, Mas for Movistar, O'Connor for Jayco AlUla, Meintjes for Intermarchè, Lenny Martinez for Bahrain and our Lorenzo Fortunato for XdS Astana.
