It is now well-known that, in recent years, vintage cycling events have proliferated throughout Italy. The theme, following the trail of L'Eroica, is the search for routes and landscapes with road cycling that almost always combines delightful food and wine breaks within a slow cycling context, which also includes a historical component entrusted to a few passionate enthusiasts who pedal on old "machines" paying attention to clothing and accessories.
The new original creation, in terms of historical reenactments, moves to the Track. In fact, organized by the Nova Unione Velocipedistica Italiana asd (an association that is an ambassador of the Coppi legacy worldwide), on March 5th, space will be given to fast wheels, creating a gathering reserved for vintage bicycles, but exclusively track bikes.
But it won't be just a parade; some historical velodrome competitions like handicap and elimination will be proposed. Naturally, the didactic and somewhat "playful" aspect of the competition will be privileged over rough competition. The Meeting Director is a prestigious Champion from the '60s, Marino Vigna, who knows track management like no one else. Why him? Because simultaneously with the track, the Association wants to commemorate, together with this wonderful character, the 60 years since his sprint victory at the Trofeo Laigueglia. That day, "Marino" left the entire cycling world behind. Indeed, if you look at the race's finish order, you'll find names like Anquetil, Adorni, Taccone, Venturelli, Zandegù, Poulidor, Dancelli, Zilioli, Balmamion, Poggiali, Passuello, Daems...
So in Andora, at the Sea Velodrome, they'll ride fixed gear without brakes, respecting the track and its history, but above all showing great esteem for a special person who honors the Nova Unione Velocipedistica Italiana with his friendship.
