Today in Rome, at CONI, the first federal council of the new four-year period of the Italian Cycling Federation was held. At the opening of the proceedings, President Cordiano Dagnoni, in his greeting, stated: "In the last four-year period, great work was done to initiate a change that in the coming years must achieve all the planned objectives. I am pleased to note that the current Council represents all territorial realities, with six former regional presidents and a balanced representation of North, Center, and South."
The most anticipated decision, among the first items on the agenda, was the approval of the National Teams' activity programs for the 2025 season in light of the new technical organization of cycling national teams (list below).
In detail, Marco Villa is the new professional road/time trial coach and retains responsibility for the women's track team together with Diego Bragato, who will continue to coordinate the Performance Team. Marco Velo is the new Head Coach of the women's road team. Dino Salvoldi, in addition to continuing work with juniors on road and track, will expand his responsibilities as Head Coach of track categories U23 and Elite. Ivan Quaranta is confirmed in the speed sector with full responsibility.
News also in BMX. Mattia Furlan is the new Head Coach of BMX race, while the Freestyle National Team is entrusted to Manlio Iaccarino. A change from the past also in Trial, with the arrival of Fabiano Grande. Pierpaolo Addesi will have the task of coordinating the Road and Track National Teams for Paracycling.
Confirmations for Marino Amadori (U23 road), Mirko Celestino (XCO and XCM), Simone Fabbri (DH and enduro), Daniele Pontoni (Cyclocross and Gravel), Luigi Bielli (Indoor Cycling) and Silvia Epis (Youth National Team).
"Villa's undisputed value convinced us in this change. To him the most challenging task in this historical phase, but also the most prestigious - said President Dagnoni presenting the new technical organization -. Dino Salvoldi has worked excellently with young athletes in recent years. He will be able to continue this work with the same athletes, whom we hope will be protagonists at the LA2028 Olympics. Marco Velo has demonstrated his value in the time trial sector and I am sure he will do so in his new role. Diego Bragato is a resource for the Federation, which is why he will continue to coordinate the performance team while also providing his valuable contribution to the women's track, especially regarding preparation. With Ivan Quaranta, the speed sector has grown and now assumes a different dignity with the goal of returning as protagonists in Los Angeles. BMX must regain momentum: it is an Olympic discipline and we, with the new coaches and activity plans, aim to continue growing. To all coaches, new and confirmed, and their collaborators, I extend my best wishes for good work. I also take this opportunity to thank all the coaches who have worked in recent years and who, for various reasons, have now concluded their journey with us. I wish them good luck in their future endeavors."
During the proceedings, Cyclocross Head Coach Daniele Pontoni and collaborator Luigi Bielli presented President Dagnoni with jersey number 100 from the 2024 season (European Team Relay Cyclocross Championship) and the first jersey of the new four-year period, the world jersey of Mattia Agostinacchio (in the photo).
