Protagonist of a truly excellent start to the season, Cristian Scaroni achieved his first seasonal success today by winning the Classic Var: "The finale was quite chaotic as almost the entire group, about a hundred riders, arrived compactly in the final kilometers, so maintaining a good position was crucial. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I was ready to give my all on the final climb. My legs were turning perfectly and I had the necessary strength for the final acceleration. Nicola Conci did an extraordinary job, bringing me into the perfect position for the finale. He set a fantastic pace, and I waited for someone to attack first, which happened 500 meters before the finish line. Then, I counterattacked just before the last turn to enter it first: at that point, I gave 100%, accelerating before the curve and continuing to push immediately after, creating a small gap. I felt everything was going perfectly and that the first seasonal victory for our team was within reach. I'm incredibly happy: the team worked impeccably, and I managed to finish the job with a victory. Moreover, this marks our first success on the new X-LAB bikes. It's a fantastic bike, very fast and equally responsive to power accelerations, and our results at the start of the season prove it. A huge thank you to the entire team and our partners for their support," said the Brescia rider right after stepping down from the awards podium.
Great satisfaction in the XDS Astana Team camp, as confirmed by team director Bruno Cenghialta: "The team worked exceptionally well today, and we were focused on obtaining the best possible result in this race. Unfortunately, even before the start, we lost a rider: Simone Velasco could not start due to a health issue, so we had to slightly modify our initial plan. Additionally, Clément Champoussin suffered a puncture 6 km from the finish line, which forced him to recover quickly and cost him the ideal position in the group. He was ready for a good result today but had a bit of bad luck. Despite these setbacks, everything went very well, and our riders reached the final kilometers at the front. Christian Scaroni had been waiting for this victory, his first with our team, and his joy was immense. He truly deserved this success, especially after such a good start to the season."
