Jonathan Milan appears visibly happy as he recounts his sprint and second victory in this edition of the UAE Tour: "I saw Tim Merlier coming very fast, then I waited for the photo finish and in the end I was told that I had won, but when I crossed the finish line I wasn't so sure... In my first years as a professional, I didn't win much because I had to first gain experience, learn how to move, understand the mechanisms that govern a sprint. Step by step, I got there and today's stage gives me a lot of confidence ahead of Milan-Sanremo, considering the level of sprinters present here at the UAE Tour. Of course, we all know that Sanremo has a different finale, but this success means a lot to me. We knew there was a high possibility of echelons with the wind today, but my teammates and I were always ready and always in the leading group to avoid being caught off guard".
Jonathan Milan has recorded his second victory at the UAE Tour, thus becoming the most successful Italian rider in this race. For the Friulian from Lidl-Trek, this is his 19th victory as a professional, the 3rd this year. Last year he ended the season with 11 victories, with only one in February.
Moreover, Milan joins Sam Bennett (2021), Jasper Philipsen (2022), Tadej Pogacar (2022), and Tim Merlier (2023): the only riders who have obtained 2 victories in a single edition of the UAE Tour. The absolute record is still one victory: Merlier won 3 times last year.
