An absolutely remarkable start to the season for Jonathan Milan, who illuminated the 2025 edition of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana by dominating the final stage. The Italian sprinter leveraged his deadly acceleration and celebrated his first triumph of the new solar year. Jonathan broke the ice for the second consecutive year in the Spanish stage race: in 2024 at Orihuela, this time in Valencia.
The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana confirms itself as fertile ground for Italian cycling with 7 stages won in the last 7 editions disputed:
- Matteo Trentin in Alicante in 2019
- Matteo Moschetti in Torrevieja in 2022
- Giulio Ciccone at Alto de Pinos in 2023
- Simone Velasco in Sagunto in 2023
- Alessandro Tonelli in Castellón in 2024
- Jonathan Milan in Orihuela in 2024
The seasonal victories conquered by Italian cyclists have become 3, counting also the one scored by Davide Stella in the final stage of the Tour of Sharjah and the one obtained by Matteo Moschetti in the final stage of the AlUla Tour. In total, 11 podium placements so far for our representatives.
The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana also highlighted the crystalline talent of Santiago Buitrago who won the final classification, becoming the second Colombian to prevail in the Iberian race (after Quintana's triumph in 2017). For him, two stage wins and therefore 3 seasonal victories, just like Australian Sam Welsford, British Thomas Pidcock, and French Kevin Vauquelin (a hat-trick just recorded these days at the Étoile de Bessèges).
