The 27th of this month is the date to mark on the calendar for all cycling enthusiasts in Verona. It is in fact the last Sunday of April, the date chosen by the organizing committee, led by U.S. Bionde, for the 81st edition of the Vicenza - Bionde race.
A particularly long-standing race that has animated the roads of Verona and Vicenza provinces for decades, giving many young under 23 athletes the opportunity to showcase themselves, conquering the top trophy of this competition which, over the years, has launched important careers.
The numbers for this 2025 edition are also significant, with over 180 registered athletes divided into 30 teams, including 3 foreign teams from Spain, Israel, and Switzerland.
The route promises to deliver plenty of emotions, both from a scenic and sporting perspective. For 2025, the partnership between the Municipality of Soave and U.S. Bionde is renewed, confirming the race's start from within the walls of the eastern Verona borough, which has become a reference point for national cycling events (we recall that in 2024, Soave hosted the start of the Veneto Classic and the passage of the Veneto Tour. On May 23, 2025, the Giro d'Italia will also pass through Soave's historic center, with the start of the Soave - Vicenza stage of the Giro-E).
Leaving the Scaliger castle behind, the group will head towards Cazzano di Tramigna, climbing Monte Tabor towards Illasi, in a test of endurance that riders have been preparing for months. A climb both challenging and exciting, which will certainly mark the outcome of the race, allowing identification of the athletes in top form from the first kilometers, once again included in the professional under 23 calendar.
After the climb, athletes will be rewarded with an exciting descent towards Caldiero and the Verona plain already colored by spring, passing through Zevio, Palù, Oppeano, and Bovolone, localities preceding the finish in Bionde di Salizzole, where the race will conclude with a circuit to be covered eight times before declaring the winner.
An exciting challenge, with its 164.2 km that will put the athletes' physical endurance to the test, ready to compete for at least one of the seven representative trophies awarded by U.S. Bionde, as anticipated by its president Filippo Scipioni: "We are proud to offer young athletes the opportunity to race on a varied and exciting route. Our society, founded in 1945, has always paid special attention to young and very young athletes, which is why the Vicenza-Bionde has been fully included in the professional under 23 federation calendar".
A sporting event that also represents an opportunity to showcase the territory, as specified by Soave's mayor Matteo Pressi: "Each year the event attracts over a thousand people to Soave, many from abroad or other Italian regions. It is certainly an important showcase and for this reason, as well as for the sporting prestige of the event, we have gratefully accepted involvement in this event, which has been followed with great affection by entire generations of cycling enthusiasts".
The appointment is therefore for Sunday, April 27, starting at 2:00 PM, in Soave's historic center, near Porta Aquila tower, from which the group will depart to write another page of a sporting novel that for 81 editions has continued to amaze and excite.
