Jonas Vingegaard has begun preparation for his main objective: the Tour de France. The Dane is working hard and has conducted an initial test in the Aalborg wind tunnel. The Visma-Lease a Bike champion has not made many changes to his schedule in view of the Tour and, in addition to various high-altitude training camps, we will see him race again at the Dauphiné in June.
Vingegaard - after a long period spent with his family, during which training never stopped - began his preparation with a test in the wind tunnel in Aalborg, Denmark. Soon, the Visma-Lease a Bike rider will go to Sierra Nevada for a high-altitude training camp with the team and will return only a few days before the Dauphiné, which begins on June 8th. That will be a truly important test, where the Dane can measure himself against all the rivals he will face at the Tour de France. After the Dauphiné, there will be another high-altitude training camp in Tignes as final preparation before the start of the yellow race.
"This week I worked in the Aalborg wind tunnel," Vingegaard explained. "We focused a lot on my bike position. It's important to work on this aspect and leave nothing to chance."
The two-time winner of the yellow race wants to forget 2024, where nothing went as imagined. He was supposed to race the Tour de France as a major protagonist, but a crash at the Tour of the Basque Country in early April ruined everything. He had to settle for second place behind Pogacar, but such a result was not acceptable for someone who had already won the Tour twice. Vingegaard also raced Paris-Nice in March, but in a crash during the fifth stage, he suffered a concussion, which was only diagnosed after his withdrawal.
"Now the focus is entirely on the Tour de France. Preparations for this race have begun. I no longer have any problems from the concussion in my last race, nor any other physical issues. It was truly a shame not to finish Paris-Nice and having to skip the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. But now I train without problems and will soon go to a training camp."
In this 2025, the Dane has preferred to participate in few races. His debut was in February at the Volta ao Algarve, where he finished first in the general classification, then came Paris-Nice where results were positive, with a first place in the time trial and a second place in the fourth stage with a summit finish, where he arrived behind Almeida.
"I can't wait to start racing again. I haven't raced much this year, so I'm looking forward to getting back to racing. This applies to both the Dauphiné and, naturally, the Tour de France. But first, I'll go to a training camp to get back in shape. After that, I'll try to win the races that are our objectives."
