Although only Davide Baldaccini remained by his side for the final stage, Kyrylo Tsarenko closed the 2025 Tour of Hainan as the overall winner. The native of Kropyvnytskyi, thanks to his success in the third stage, managed to defend the margin accumulated in Baoting both today and especially yesterday, and in doing so, wrote a beautiful and important page of history: neither he nor his team, Team Solution Tech-Vini Fantini, had ever won the general classification of a stage race.
"It's incredible, it's hard to believe this is true. If someone was watching the race from the outside, they would have certainly thought 'what can these guys do with just two riders?' I think we made a miracle, I'm extremely happy. I must thank the entire team and my teammates who always had faith in me, never doubted what I could do in these five days, and gave everything they could. It's incredible," the 2000-born rider told our microphones after the finish line, before delving deeper into the analysis of a stage where he defended his lead with only one man by his side, namely Davide Baldaccini.
"Today we had to move like we did yesterday, staying careful and not letting people close to us in the general classification. Baldaccini, as he had already hinted in previous days, showed he was in great condition because otherwise, between yesterday and today, it wouldn't have been possible to see him pulling at the head of the group and working as he did both in the mountains and in the wind. Everyone, therefore, did their job perfectly, and this is the result," continued the rider who gave the Italian team its first success in the general classification of a multi-day race.
"I didn't know that, it's a nice satisfaction, just like any victory and any result you bring home when you've worked well," Tsarenko stated.
"I hope to be able to go to Turkey as planned because this morning I woke up with a bit of a cough and not feeling at my best. I hope it passes in these ten days before leaving. Then we'll see, based on my condition, what objectives to set my sights on. Ambitions? I don't like making proclamations, let's see," concluded the 24-year-old Ukrainian.
