"100 years ago... here comes Binda" is the slogan coined by the event promoters to commemorate Alfredo Binda on the hundredth anniversary of the Cittiglio native's first Giro d'Italia victory.
The idea comes from the members of the New Italian Cycling Union led by President Alberto Boschi in collaboration with the Municipality of Cittiglio, represented by Mayor Rossella Magnani, involving the Binda family and local sports enthusiasts (in the photo).
The event days are Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April, when the Valcuvia town that gave birth to the five-time Giro d'Italia winner will breathe the atmosphere of heroic cycling. On Saturday morning at 10 am, a exhibition of bicycles, jerseys, photographs, and documents dedicated to Binda will be inaugurated in the municipal council hall. In the afternoon, there will be a parade of heroes through the streets of Cittiglio and a tribute at Alfredo Binda's tomb. At 5 pm in the council hall, the champion's profile will be traced through the words of Sergio Gianoli, Luca Carraro, Carlo Delfino, and Marco Pasquini. Sunday morning will be dedicated to cycling, with participants riding bicycles and wearing clothing from the 1920s and 1930s on the roads of upper Varese.
