From May 3rd to June 15th, 2025, San Daniele del Friuli will host the photographic exhibition "The Brutal Beauty of Cycling", dedicated to the works of Kristof Ramon, a world-renowned photographer known in the cycling world as Kramon. The exhibition will be held on the first floor of the Monte di Pietà, in the historic center of the prosciutto town.
The official opening is scheduled for May 3rd at 6 PM, in the presence of the author. However, the exhibition will open for a preview in the morning, as part of the San Daniele Sboccia program, an event that transforms the heart of San Daniele del Friuli into a beautiful flowering salon every year.
Kristof Ramon is today one of the most appreciated cycling photographers worldwide. Born in Belgium, he began his career in cinema and television before dedicating himself entirely to sports photography in 2009. His style is unique and recognizable; his photos are not the classic sports news photographs but pay particular attention to the effort, tension, and brutal beauty of cycling.
His first photographic experience related to cycling dates back to 2005; since then, he has followed the three Grand Tours (Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, and Vuelta a España) and all the most important cycling classics, from Milan-San Remo to Paris-Roubaix, from the Tour of Flanders to Strade Bianche. His first book, The Art of Suffering: capturing the brutal beauty of road cycling (Lawrence King Publishing, London, 2023), sold out in just a few months.
Related Events
During the exhibition period, the show will be enriched by two special events in San Daniele del Friuli:
Sunday, June 8th - Theatrical performance by Dino Persello, "A vae mi - O voi jo - I'm going", an emotional musical narrative of the life of the great and unforgettable cycling champion Ottavio Bottecchia.
Friday, June 13th - Screening of the documentary "The Three Tailors of the King", which tells the story of the connection between Eddy Merckx and Italian bicycle craftsmanship, with testimonies from great names like Ernesto Colnago, Alberto Masi, and Cristiano De Rosa. The documentary, produced by RaiSport and screened for the first time, will be commented on by Franco Bortuzzo, RAI journalist, author and director of the documentary, and Beppe Conti, RAI collaborator and cycling historian.
An Event Organized by We Like Bike
The exhibition is curated by the We Like Bike Consortium, already promoter of important cultural initiatives related to the world of cycling. We Like Bike, which is the reference point for cycling tourism in the hilly area, in addition to its tourist promotion activity, has been bringing significant events to San Daniele del Friuli since 2019, contributing to the spread of cycling culture through exhibitions, meetings, and shows.
This exhibition represents an unmissable opportunity for photography and cycling enthusiasts, a visual journey that returns all the strength, beauty, and hardness of one of the most fascinating sports in the world.
