Risks and road-related problems which, despite the prompt involvement of the Naples Prefecture, cannot be immediately addressed: the Mediterranean Tour in Pink changes its schedule and moves from April (from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th) to next September.
The decision was made by the cycling event organization, a women's stage race second in importance in Italy only to the Women's Giro. This was communicated by President Francesco Vitiello, who in an official letter sent to the authorities and municipalities involved in the four stages of the Tour, explained that on March 25th a "Public Safety and Order Table" was convened at the Naples Prefecture, during which "several municipalities on the route of the second and third stages highlighted issues related to deviations on roads different from those initially indicated due to ongoing work, problems linked to fiber optic installation and unfinished infrastructure".
Given that "many of these critical issues cannot be quickly resolved but only addressed later" and that "during the meeting, the regional civil protection, due to the seismic emergency in the Campi Flegrei, also reported a lack of volunteer availability to support the Tour", the decision was made to postpone the event.
"Despite the enormous efforts put in by the entire organizing staff - states Francesco Vitiello - there are currently no technical times and means to address the numerous problems that have emerged in recent weeks. This does not mean there is no intention to hold the Tour, which has become a fundamental appointment in the international women's cycling calendar. For this reason, after consulting with the UCI, the International Cycling Union, we have agreed that the Mediterranean Tour in Pink will be held during next September, maintaining a program that will include the first stage on the island of Capri and the subsequent two in Campania. We believe it is right to thank all the representatives of the institutions involved in various capacities, who have not failed to provide their support, starting with the president of the Italian Cycling Federation Cordiano Dagnoni and the professional cycling league Roberto Pella".
