More than a month has passed since Vittoria Bussi officially announced to tuttobiciweb her pursuit of two new records: the world record in the 4 kilometers and the Hour Record that already belongs to her. The cyclist of Roman origin continues her preparation for these new challenges and, as she had previously anticipated, after the period spent at altitude in Andorra, she flew to Mexico where in recent weeks she has worked intensively on the track of the Aguascalientes velodrome.
Vittoria, how did the training on the Mexican track go?
"I am satisfied. We organized the training camp in three phases. In the first, we focused on studying all materials from an aerodynamic perspective, then we moved on to working on the strategy to be adopted during the Hour Record, and in the third phase, we worked on the Pursuit, which is the part we will need to focus on most, even though the new distance is more suited to my characteristics."
What are your plans now?
"I've been back in Italy for a few days: among various events on my agenda, I shared my testimony as an athlete and mathematician at an event organized at the Polytechnic of Turin by one of my sponsors and the university's cycling sports group. However, I will soon fly to Andorra again for a new three-week high-altitude training camp. That will be a fundamental period: I'm expecting perhaps the most important and challenging training camp of my career. We will need to fine-tune the preparation before heading to Mexico for the attempt."
Have you already scheduled a day for the new time trial challenge?
"No, it's still being defined. I will communicate the date as soon as possible. However, I have some important news regarding timekeeping."
Tell us.
"During this period, I've had several contacts with the Union Cycliste Internationale, and we have reached an agreement regarding the company that ensures electronic timekeeping for the Hour Record. For all people attempting the Record outside of Switzerland, the official result can now be achieved using a different company from those usually used by the UCI."
An important agreement.
"Certainly, I'm really happy to have reached it. For me, but also for all the athletes who will want to attempt the Hour Record in the future."
