The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and its partner Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports confirm that the UCI Track Champions League will be held for the last time in 2024 and that, subsequently, the UCI Track Nations Cup will be revitalized starting from 2026.
On the eve of a new Olympic cycle that will culminate with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, the UCI has noted WBD Sports' decision – promoter of the UCI Track Champions League since its launch in 2021 – to redefine its involvement in promoting track cycling.
In this context, starting from 2026, the UCI Track Nations Cup will be renamed UCI Track World Cup, a competition that plays a crucial role in qualifying nations and their athletes for the UCI Track Cycling World Championships and Olympic events in the discipline. The series will be structured in three rounds, with a program that will include both Olympic events and the elimination race, a format always highly appreciated by the public.
WBD Sports will put its experience and network at the service of the UCI Track World Cup, which will benefit from a wide pan-European and global exposure through linear, social, and digital platforms, as well as the broader Warner Bros. Discovery network that includes broadcasters and partners across the European continent.
In all territories where WBD will not offer coverage of the UCI Track World Cup, it will be possible to follow the event live on the UCI YouTube channel, subject to geo-blocking restrictions. Additionally, the event will be covered on all UCI social channels.
UCI President David Lappartient stated: "I would first like to acknowledge Warner Bros. Discovery Sports' involvement in organizing and promoting the UCI Track Champions League over the past four years. This event has helped promote track cycling like never before. With the continuation of our collaboration, which in the next three years will focus on covering the UCI Track World Cup, I am confident that track cycling will continue to grow in popularity, up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and beyond".
Chris Ball, Vice President of Cycling Events at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe, said: "Track cycling is an incredible spectacle and, as we look forward to track cycling at Los Angeles 2028, we are pleased to continue our partnership with the UCI, broadcasting world-class male and female action from velodromes, such as the UCI Track World Cup, in addition to our unparalleled road and mountain bike offerings, to millions of fans worldwide".
The UCI is now calling for bids to organize the stages of the 2026, 2027, and 2028 editions of the UCI Track World Cup. Interested organizers are asked to contact the UCI at track@uci.ch. The calendar for the 2026, 2027, and 2028 editions of the UCI Track World Cup will be announced after approval by the UCI Management Committee.
