Juan Ayuso has won the 2025 Tirreno-Adriatico and thus became the 47th cyclist to write his name in the prestigious golden book of the Race of the Two Seas. There are now 5 Spanish triumphs in the 60 editions contested so far, counting those celebrated by Herminio Diaz Zabala in 1991, Abraham Olano in 2000, Oscar Freire in 2005, and Alberto Contador in 2014. For Ayuso, these are 4 victories in the season.
The just-concluded Tirreno-Adriatico was very positive for Italy. Because thanks to Filippo Ganna's 2nd place and Antonio Tiberi's 3rd place, we find two Azzurri simultaneously on the final podium as had not happened since 2010, because in just 6 of the 26 editions contested from 2000 to 2025, Italian riders have won at least 4 stages (last time 19 years ago), and because it had been since 2010 that Italy did not lead the general classification in 5 of the 7 stages. This time only with Ganna, who has risen to 11 total blue jerseys in his career, second all-time with Freire and the best ever among our representatives.
Thanks to the results obtained at the 2025 Tirreno-Adriatico, Italian cycling has placed itself at the top of three performance rankings for World Tour seasonal races: 6 victories, 3 cyclists who hit the target, and 14 total placements among the top three. No nation has been able to obtain such important numbers in the UCI's main circuit races that have been disputed so far.
