On March 10th, Walter Bucher, a versatile Swiss rider from Zurich, passed away at the impressive age of 98. He was an excellent cyclist, particularly on the track, and an outstanding stayer when middle-distance cycling with large motors was at its peak, especially in northern European events and winter six-day races.
During his career, he won eleven Six-Day races and was world champion in the stayer category in Paris in 1959, also securing three silver and one bronze medal.
He was also a good road cyclist and rode with the Italian Gazzola team in 1960 and 1961.
He later became a sports director for teams with promising riders before establishing himself as an entrepreneur in the transportation sector.
