
Tomorrow will be the 19th edition of the Strade Bianche, fifth World Tour event of 2025, the second Italian race of the season. Tadej Pogacar will be the big favorite and will try to write his name for the third time in the prestigious Tuscan classic's honor roll after his triumphs in 2022 and 2024. If successful, he would join Fabian Cancellara at the top of the all-time individual ranking (for the Swiss, victories dating from 2008, 2012, 2016) and would become the first cyclist in history to win Strade Bianche in the world champion jersey.
Among the 14 riders capable of achieving at least one victory in the 18 editions so far, there is only one Italian. This is Moreno Moser, winner in 2013. Overall, 8 Italian podiums counting the second places by Alessandro Ballan (2008 and 2011), Davide Formolo (2020) and the third places by Damiano Cunego (2011), Oscar Gatto (2012), Rinaldo Nocentini (2013), Gianluca Brambilla (2016).
Ahead of the 2025 edition, 12 nations have managed to achieve at least one victory and 20 have been on the podium at least once. The most recent in chronological order is Latvia, which last year celebrated Toms Skujinš's fine second place. In 2024, Pogacar also set two records: 81 kilometers in the breakaway and 2'44" ahead of the second-placed rider.
