A photo finish was needed to award the victory of Omloop van het Hageland to Femke Gerritse. The 23-year-old Dutch rider from SD Worx Protime beat Irish UAE ADQ rider Lara Gillespie in a tight sprint, while Norwegian Susanne Andersen in the Uno X jersey finished the 137 km race in third place. Gerritse regains success after four years and concludes in the best possible way the great work of her teammates, particularly Anna Van der Breggen, who animated the decisive action for a long time and crossed the finish line in seventh position. The main group, led by Charlotte Kool, arrived thirty seconds behind the winner.
The race heated up in the last fifty kilometers when, on one of the cobblestone sections of the circuit's heart, Anna van der Breggen, Elena Cecchini, and Femke Gerritse pushed hard on the pedals, breaking the group into several sections and creating an action of about twenty riders including Chiara Consonni (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto), Maria Giulia Confalonieri (Uno-X Mobility), Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck), Charlotte Kool (Team Picnic PostNL), Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ), and Valentine Fortin (Cofidis Women Team).
At the sound of the last lap bell, the attackers were traveling with a 50" advantage over the chasing group led by Picnic PostNL. Before tackling the Roeselberg for the last time, the escapees lost some momentum and some of their advantage, and understanding the "danger" Anna van der Breggen (Team SD Worx – Protime) attacked again, remaining at the front with Femke Gerritse (Team SD Worx – Protime), Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ), Marthe Truyen (Fenix-Deceuninck), Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck), Maike van der Duin (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto), and Susanne Andersen (Uno-X Mobility).
After the last cobblestone section, Femke Gerritse tried to break away without worrying any of her companions. With 3 kilometers to go, Puck Pieterse attempted an attack, controlled by Van der Breggen. The 2020 World Champion then worked for Gerritse in the last kilometer, allowing her to sprint and win.
