The road rises beneath the wheels. Riders jump on the pedals. The sky covers with clouds. The mountains stand out on the horizon. These are the Alps. The Italian ones. But at the Tour de France. A unique case.
"The Tour in Italy": 21 photographs 90x50, seven for each author: Francesco Bonasera, Alessandro Federico, Angelo Giangregorio. An evening, last Saturday, at the Vigorelli in Milan. Those who were there, were there.
Photographing is documenting and testifying, telling and interpreting, capturing a moment and stretching it, expanding it, perpetuating it. And photographers are seekers and finders, explorers and discoverers, part nomads and part anarchists, they work to identify a point of view that transforms into a point of life, true life, lived life. For Bonasera, Federico and Giangregorio, cycling life. Roads, races, riders. Handlebars, water bottles, frames. Shins, faces, eyes. It depends, precisely, on the point of view. And of life.
And to think that our three, at that Tour de France 2024, had not managed to get accredited. But the road belongs to everyone, and this is the beauty of cycling, there's no need for badges or patches to position yourself on a hairpin turn or on a tree, in a sunflower field or on the surface of the asphalt, in front of a school or behind a traffic warden, and photograph. So Bonasera, Federico and Giangregorio went and photographed. Not only. Last Saturday at the Vigorelli they also explained, if it can be done, their passion for cycling. Because it's about passion. Their emotional approach, their exciting results. Vibrations, chills, heartbeats. Call them what you want. And the photographs taken and left as traces, as footprints. A we-loved-so-much.
Not by chance, friends and relatives were there, road companions and even professionals of the lens or wide-angle. A success. Which could also be repeated. Stories, the more they are told, the more they are enriched.
