His name is Meron Teshome Hagos, he is 31 years old, and back in the now distant 2012 he was racing for Eritrea in the Tour de l'Avenir. He is the unknown trailblazer for his cousin Biniam Girmay, the example that the Intermarchè Wanty champion was inspired by, arriving at the World Cycling Center.
Meron had also passed through the training facility in Aigle, and today he competes in an Algerian team, the Madar Pro Cycling Team, after several seasons with the German Bike Aid, a team closely linked to African cycling. It's not entirely superfluous to think about how Teshome Hagos's stage victory in the 2015 Tour du Rwanda, along with Eritrean road and time trial titles, represented an important motivational lever for Girmay. The rest is History. But don't we want to give Meron a special mention?
