Olav Kooij has once again confirmed himself as the strongest sprinter in the Tour of Oman peloton. At the finish line of the fourth stage, the Dutch Visma Lease a Bike rider delivered a royal sprint that literally burned his rivals.
"I'm really satisfied with my experience here in Oman, I came to win a stage and I'd say I've hit the jackpot. After the first stage, I understood that I was feeling really good, I had excellent form, and so I already started setting my eyes on the fourth stage. Today everything went in the right direction, it was a calm day and I simply completed the work already done by my teammates," Kooij explained right after the finish. "I started the sprint from the perfect position, everything was very fast and I tried to push as much as possible on the pedals and give everything I had."
During today's stage, the Visma Lease a Bike team members wore a very different helmet than usual, but excellent for aerodynamics. In particular, Pietro Mattio, whom we told you about a few days ago in the Dutch formation, did a great job of keeping the race under control and then catching the day's breakaway. "Today my teammates were amazing and it's right that on stages not suited to my characteristics I put myself at their disposal. Yesterday was a very difficult day, it was hot, but in the finale I tried to climb at my own pace to not burn my legs in view of today. Tomorrow will be another day to help the team, we have Green Mountain ahead and I believe our Cian has great chances to make a difference," Kooij continued, who we will most likely see tomorrow in the role of domestique to help Cian Uijtdebroeks.
