After two years with Eolo-Kometa and last season spent wearing the Q36.5 jersey, Alessandro Fancellu has moved down a category and in 2025 will defend the colors of the JCL Team Ukyo, a Japanese Continental team that we have recently come to know well thanks to the victories achieved by Matteo Malucelli and Giovanni Carboni.
The latter, after relaunching themselves under Manuele Boaro, in the last transfer market have found spots in a World Tour team (XDS Astana Team for the Forlì rider) and a ProTeam (Unibet Tietema Rockets for the Marche rider), a path that Fancellu hopes to replicate by standing out as much as possible in the coming months.
"The hope is to follow their path, therefore try to do well to return to the A Series of cycling. I like the calendar I'll be doing, after Alula I'll do Muscat Classic and Oman, so a block of races in the Arabian Peninsula" he told our microphones, the Como-born rider, before telling us a bit more about his winter and short-term goals.
"The winter went well, compared to last year I had few setbacks which is already a very positive thing. I did 15 days in Serra Nevada at altitude before starting the season to get off on the right foot and... I hope to succeed. Seasonal goal? I'd say the races in March and April, namely Tour of the Alps, Coppi e Bartali and Giro dell'Abruzzo. Those months, meaning March and April, are very important for us. Obviously, there are many other high-level races where we'll need to be ready".
In all this, the support he will have from the Ukyo team, a reality he is getting to know better day by day, will be fundamental.
"It's a very serious environment, the Japanese are very precise, on point, and so there's a lot of professionalism. The AlUla Tour is the first race we're doing together and we're trying to integrate as best as possible".
