Etienne Garnier, a French photographer from L'Equipe, with an image taken at the Tour de France of a "hungry" fan has won the 8th edition of The Best of Cycling 2024 contest. Second place goes to Gregory Van Gansen, a Belgian from the PhotoNews agency, with Mathieu Van Der Poel portrayed in a cyclocross race. Third place to the Dutch photographer Joris Knapen with the jubilation of Eritrean fans as their idol Biniam Girmay passes by.
The jury - composed of Maurizio Fondriest, Stefano Allocchio, Emiliano Neri, Francesca Cazzaniga and Lido Andreella - chose from over 150 images submitted to the contest by 60 photographers from around the world.
"It was not easy to choose among these beautiful images" was the unanimous thought of the jurors who, obviously without knowing the author's name, had to express their votes.
The final ranking was as follows:
1st Etienne Garnier (FRA)
2nd Gregory Van Gansen (BEL)
3rd Joris Knapen (NED)
4th Joris Knapen (NED)
