The bicycle takes center stage, protagonist of about ninety shots that captured stories and passions, telling of an era. "Bicycle Thieves, Photographs of Neorealism in the Italy of Rebirth" is the photographic exhibition that will be inaugurated on Saturday, March 15 at 12:00 pm at the Aura Hall of Palazzo Arese Borromeo in Cesano Maderno.
The exhibition, conceived and curated by Enrica Viganò, is the first of many events that the Municipal Administration of Cesano Maderno is organizing in view of the eighteenth stage of the 2025 Giro d'Italia when the pink caravan, starting from Morbegno, will arrive in the Brianza town.
"In 1948, Vittorio de Sica's 'Bicycle Thieves' was released in cinemas. Just a year later, Fausto Coppi, triumphant in the Giro d'Italia on his Bianchi, would become the popular hero of a modern epic. In those years, the bicycle was an absolute protagonist on different levels that intersect in everyday life. In the pulsating climate of post-war reconstruction, the myth of the bicycle grows, becoming an instrument of daily life and a prodigious means of the noble era of cycling," said the exhibition's curator.
The Mayor of Cesano Maderno, Gianpiero Bocca, commented: "Palazzo Arese Borromeo will once again be the setting for a high-quality and valuable exhibition, a tribute to artistic photography, to which we owe an irreplaceable and authentic narrative not only of events but also of the feelings that characterized our Post-War period."
The exhibition will be open until June 2 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. More information is available on the website of the Municipality of Cesano Maderno.
